Phil Wheat and Lori Givens of Wheat-Givens Financial recently sponsored the Women’s Alliance of McKinney Nothing but Networking luncheon at Eldorado Country Club. When asked to share their top networking tips with fellow chamber members, this is what they had to say:
Networking is not about collecting business cards it is about building relationships. To achieve that, you must be attentive and show genuine interest in the person with whom you are speaking to. In order to build relationships you must make people feel valued. This can be achieved by being focused.
Furthermore, be strategic and arrive with a plan to get the most out of your networking. When you are selecting your networking opportunities consider what you hope to achieve. In addition, having a plan in place can help ease networking jitters.
