• McKinney Chamber supports airport master plan

The Chamber Board of Directors recently voted to support the proposed master plan for the McKinney National Airport. The plan was a year-long process that included the expertise of the Coffman Associates. Through analysis, studies, community and business input and strategic visioning a draft of the master plan will be submitted to the City Council for review and adoption. The 20-year plan will be submitted to the City Council for review in February and would then be submitted to Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division for review.

While the plan is a long range vision for the development of the airport, it is a document that outlines the best ways to proceed based on demand. The document will also be reviewed and adjusted every five years.

The Chamber supports the plan as it outlines ways to expand the airport, create economic development opportunities, jobs, and expanded ad valorem tax revenue for the City and School Districts that helps offset tax burden on households. The Chamber recognizes the airport as a vital piece of economic development and believes the plan outlines ways to capitalize on the development of the airport including acquisition of land and potential runway extensions.
