Letter from the Chair - Jarred Griffin

    What's up McKinney Young Professionals!

We just had a successful business tour/happy hour all at SRS Distribution! The MYP'ers got to tour their facility, learn about their culture, history, and future, and then have a Happy Hour and food in their cafe! A HUGE thank you to Abernathy, Roeder, Boyd & Hullett, P.C. for sponsoring this event!

Our next big event is right around the corner! We will be doing our annual Cheers to Charity event at TUPPS Brewery (presented by our Title Sponsor Love Life!) on Tuesday, September 14th from 5:00 - 7:30 PM! This is always a VERY well attended event, and you don't have to be a MYP'er to go! Tickets are on sale now, just go to the MVP page on the Chamber website. You won't want to miss this event! Food will be provided by Cadillac pizza, there will be a beer stein auction and really cool raffle items as well. We still have 1-2 sponsorship slots available, so if anyone is interested, please let me know!

On a more serious note, we had a call with our Charity Partner, Embrace Texas, this week. They have informed me that the amount of kids without foster placement (whether it's aging out of just an increase in the number of kids) has grown substantially this year. We, as Young Professionals, need to take charge and help our community while we can. Their biggest need is for people to give their time. Here is the quote directly from Embrace Texas:

"We are looking for business/skilled professionals who would be willing to donate their time/talents with children who are currently without a foster placement. For the last several months we have been able to provide a home cooked meal for children staying in hotels in Collin County. We have now been given the green light to start doing more enrichment activities with these children.
We are hoping to find some individuals who would be willing to volunteer with us to serve/mentor these children. There are a few steps including a CPS background check to volunteer.
    Examples (but not limited to):
Barber, HairDresser/Hair Braiding, Photographer, Small Business Owner--guidance on employment, Teachers/Tutors , Someone willing to help with college application/grants/scholarships, CPR/First Aid, Dietitian/Meal Planning , Budgeting
If someone reaches out with other ideas, we are open!"

Even if you can't give your time, if you know someone who is willing and able to, please reach out to Denise Kendrick at Embrace Texas (denise@embracetexas.org) and connect. You could really make a difference in some kids' lives. These are our future Young Professionals, so we need to lead by example.

Another way to get involved is by helping out with some of their events coming up! Below are the remaining events for the year for both Embrace Texas and MVP. I hope to see you soon!
