• City of McKinney to update development regulations

The following is a press release from the City of McKinney

The City of McKinney has launched a major initiative to update its development regulations. This update is aimed at bringing the city’s development regulations into better alignment with the recently adopted ONE McKinney 2040 Comprehensive Plan. Clarion Associates, a consulting firm who specializes in development codes will guide the city throughout the process.

The comprehensive plan establishes a basis for continued planning activities designed to produce the best possible decisions about the community’s future. One of the top priorities identified in the plan is an update to the city’s development regulations. This update will build on the work of the comprehensive plan by reviewing and modernizing key components of the city’s development code so that they better align with the vision described in the comprehensive plan.

"As a staff, we are extremely excited to start this process. Some of our existing regulations have been around for quite some time. This update will not only better prepare the city to achieve the vision described in the comprehensive plan, but it will also allow for a much-needed modernization of our ordinances,” said Jennifer Arnold, Director of Planning.

Last year, McKinney City Council adopted the ONE McKinney 2040 Comprehensive Plan that provides vision and policy guidance for future development and master planning for things like land use, parks, transportation, economic vitality and other quality of life issues for the next 20 years.
