• Ambassador Spotlight - Marvin McHellon

What is the name of your business and where are you located?
    Branch Banking & Trust Company – (BB&T) - 6251 Eldorado Pkwy, McKinney, TX 75070

Give us a brief description of your business.
I am currently a Commercial Relationship Manager with BB&T for the North DFW market. I am responsible for building relationships with local business owners and being a trusted advisor for the businesses’ capital formation needs. In addition to providing capital, I also work with my colleagues to provide value as it relates to the company’s risk management, employee benefits, payment solutions and personal financial management as well.

How have you benefited from being an Ambassador?
The thing that I have enjoyed most about being an ambassador is connecting with and helping our local business owners to increase their awareness of the many valuable resources provided through their membership with the McKinney Chamber. I have also been able to connect business owners with other companies that provide complimentary services as well, which has produced client referrals for the parties involved. As a commercial banker, I have a deep respect and admiration for all business owners and entrepreneurs and it is a great feeling knowing that my efforts are helping local businesses to grow and evolve in this very competitive business environment.

Tell us about your involvement in the Community?
Organization: One Community Church – Plano Campus
    Dates Involved: 2014-Current
Nature of Participation: I’ve served as a small group leader in the Children’s Ministry (5th and 6th grade) at the Plano Campus at Custer and Hwy 121 since 2014. I’ve served as the service leader and 5th grade group leader at various points as well. I currently lead a group of 6th grade boys each Sunday and will advance with the group through high school over the next several years. My involvement with the youth at One Community Church has been my most significant community contribution. The level of maturity and leadership that I have seen from the kids in my first 5th grade group 4 years ago, who are now 8th graders, has been amazing to witness. Also, some of the stories that I will often hear about the impact of things learned at church and how it has had a positive impact on their ability to combat negative peer pressure and have a positive view of themselves in the midst of today’s culture has been amazing. I also spend a few days each year volunteering with different non-profit organizations throughout DFW as a part of BB&T’s Annual Lighthouse Project.
