• A Letter from the Leadership McKinney Alumni Network Chair

Are you living your best life?

This was the first question I was asked by 2015 Leadership McKinney graduate Joel Scrivner when I met with him a few years ago. Joel has developed a unique mindset and drive from this simple question, which propelled him to become a six-time national and four-time world champion in martial arts. After hanging up his martial arts belts, Joel dedicated his life to training others to be champions both on and off the mat. He has directed leadership workshops for some of the nation’s top corporations. I will never forget the lessons and passion I’ve learned from my friend Joel. However, he is just one great example of Leadership McKinney Alumni who have made an impact on those in their class, community, and business.

Who do you know that participated in Leadership McKinney and you recall they made an impact on you? You should reconnect with them today and there is no better place to do it than at a Leadership McKinney Alumni event.  In September we had some great events - were you there?

To start -- we hosted the Day of Remembrance event on September 11th.  This was an incredible morning where we remembered and honored all those affected by the fateful day events of 9/11in our nation.   The entire McKinney community was invited to attend, and we had attendees and great public safety participation including the McKinney Police and Fire Departments, along with the Collin County Sherriff’s Department, the DPS and many retired NYPD officers who are living in our area. Our keynote speaker was retired FDNY Chief, Lee Ielpi.  Lee gave an overview of the facts leading up to that tragic day and his personal, compelling story of spending months looking through the rubble for his son, who lost his life that day serving as an FDNY firefighter. The day was nothing less than amazing and it was an honor to be included.

Our other event in September was our Joint After Hours event hosted with two other chamber groups: McKinney Young Professionals (MYP) and the Woman’s Alliance of McKinney (WAM). It was a BIG hit!  The event was a come and go networking meeting at Sugarbacon Proper Kitchen - downtown McKinney. Connecting with both of these amazing groups and meeting new people was great as we filled up the restaurant. Folks were so happy to network with members from other groups and the feedback positively confirmed we must do this again.

Live your best life and include networking in your activities.  Here are a few more events to put on your calendar.  Don’t wait -- Register Now!  And there are always sponsorship opportunities available!
