• A Letter from the Leadership McKinney Alumni Network Chair

It was great to see so many of our Leadership McKinney Alumni at the McKinney Community Awards Banquet on February 22nd. It was such an amazing night honoring so many achievements around the community; two awards, in particular, highlighted the great work done by members of our Leadership McKinney family.

Tracy Rath was honored by receiving the 2019 Leadership McKinney Alumni of the Year Award. This award is presented to an alum who has made a positive and lasting difference in McKinney, emphasizing the importance of active involvement and providing a role model for others. Tracy spoke about how she never took her Leadership McKinney experience for granted and saw it as a launching pad to get involved and help make her community better. She has served in many different capacities, including her current roles as a City Council Member and Mayor Pro Tem.

The Quality of Life Award went to The Alliance of Elite Youth Leadership (AEYL), which was founded and still led by Derrick Robinson, a current member of the 2019 Leadership McKinney class. Derrick and his wife, Ceretha, gave a beautiful acceptance speech about their kids, the mission of AEYL and how the community has rallied around them in their efforts to make a difference for our diverse youth. Derrick credited Leadership McKinney for helping to develop crucial connections and teaching him leadership principals that helped propel AEYL’s growth. Derrick and his team are doing amazing work.

The night was additional proof that we have such a great alumni community following the chamber’s mission of leading, connecting, and empowering those around them to advance business and community excellence.
I am so excited and honored to be a part of this group of amazing leaders.

This week we had our first professional development lunch event of the year and it was a huge success! LaShon Ross joined us to facilitate an hour of training on Reaping the Benefits of Teamwork. We did as much laughing as we did learning with LaShon, and she left us with a tool kit of ideas on how to impact our work teams and drive them to success. Everyone who attended said the event was well worth the time and wished they had more time with her.
