Event Description:

Young Actors Guild presents “And A Child Shall Lead”

And A Child Shall Lead

Allow a group of children to capture your heart, mind, and soul in a thrilling tale not based in fantasy, but on true events of captivity, war, heartbreak, and the resilient bond of love that even the most tyrannical of circumstances could never break. Enter the world of A Child Shall Lead where we follow eight Jewish children, imprisoned in Terezin, a Nazi Death Camp, and forced into a lifestyle of constant scrounging for even the most basic of human rights. Subject to hunger and death, these children are held captive under the sadistic reign of Hitler’s Third Reich.

With thousands of children being subject to the torturous situations of the concentration camps, this small group was not content to continue living in the filth of the status quo and instead became a family determined to expose the horrifying secrets of Terezin to the world. Their journey begins with the death of their beloved teacher, who, despite the laws in Terezin forbidding education of any sort, had created an underground school and had for years been secretly fighting back with weapons not made for warfare, but with weapons of even greater strength; words, poems, art, and life-enhancing education. When she died, the Children were left to lead the way. Under the inspiration of Miroslav, 15 years old and the oldest of the group, they not only continued her vision but took their fight to the next level. The Young Actors Guild was committed to providing an accurate historical reenactment of this magnificent story and every actor in the play thoroughly researched and learned all they can from the true records of their character by attending the Dallas Holocaust Museum. The actual poems and artwork of these children are currently on display at the Museum. These works reveal the habitat and living conditions of the children they are portraying.

Don’t miss this incredible chance to see their story come to life in YAG’s reenactment of A Child Shall Lead written by Michael Slade and Directed by Jake Correll. Watch as these children war against inequality, rail at the prison bars of hate, and confidently proclaim love in even the darkest of places.

All attendees of the Sunday matinee will be invited to an exclusive presentation from a holocaust survivor that will speak of their personal experience with a question and answer period following.
