About Leadership McKinney
About Leadership Programs
Leadership McKinney Mission:
Learning responsibility for the whole community; working together in the spirit of unity; discovering the past, defining the present and shaping our common future.
Leadership McKinney Program
Leadership McKinney began in 1988 as a community leadership development program sponsored by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. The objective is to provide McKinney with a diverse group of individuals, representing all sectors of our community, who are committed to assuming a greater responsibility for the future or our city through leadership. Community trusteeship – leaders committing themselves to making our community a better place for all.
Spanning ten months from August through May, Leadership McKinney offers a challenging educational experience designed to develop an awareness of the McKinney community, provide personal leadership training, enhance networking for positive accomplishments throughout the community and instill the practice of volunteer service in each participant.
Participants in the program are chosen through an application and selection process, assuring a mix of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences who represent a cross section of the city. Beginning with a 2-day retreat in August that focuses on individual and community leadership skills, the class then meets once a month to examine specific aspects of the community, pulling it all together with a leadership focus.
Leadership McKinney participants benefit by gaining insight into the inner workings of the community and by developing a valuable network among civic, business & educational leaders; they will develop lasting friendships throughout the year; and the community and the businesses whose employees participate in Leadership McKinney benefit by gaining a source of high quality leaders who are prepared to address issues critical to the future.
Leadership Skills Facilitator - Carolyn Corbin
The program has been taken to a higher level with the addition of leadership skills facilitator, Carolyn Corbin , President of the Center for the 21st Century. Renowned author, speaker and socioeconomic futurist, Carolyn inspires class members to think globally as they plan for their community’s future, striving to make it a better place to call “home.”
