Examine the responsibility and commitment necessary to hold a public office, including the strain it may place on your family and job. Where do I file for office? Learn the rules and regulations for campaigns including reporting contributions. How do I plan a successful campaign? Putting together a comprehensive plan is one of the first steps in running for office. Candidates should put together a timeline, campaign team and budget. Candidates will also need to know campaign activities such as Web sites, phone banks, signs, and yard signs. Also learn how to work with the media. You won ... now what? Be the best office holder you can by knowing necessary procedures and laws including Robert’s Rules of Order, Open Meetings Laws and the Freedom of Information Act. • Cost to attend: $25 • Candidate School is open to anyone interested in running for local public office.
