Second Annual 'Christmas In July' Toy Drive

The McKinney Young Professionals (MYP) held its second annual "Christmas in July" Toy Drive benefiting CASA of Collin County at El Chico Café in McKinney.

CASA of Collin County promotes and protects the best interests of children who have been abused or neglected. The organization does this by training volunteer advocates to improve the children’s quality of life and serve as their voice within the court system to ensure they are placed in a safe, permanent and loving home.

Jim Collins, owner of the El Chico in McKinney, hosted the event for the Young Professionals for the second year in a row, providing complimentary beverages, appetizers and a private meeting room to display all the toys collected. McKinney businesses generously donated more than 250 toys and more than $500 in gift cards to CASA of Collin County. “This year was even better than last year!” Collins said.

Susan Etheridge, director of CASA, stated, "CASA is fortunate to have strong community support especially during the holidays. However, our children need help all year long. The McKinney Young Professionals have not forgotten the importance of giving back to the community. Not only did they personally collect gift cards and toys, but they are also encouraged other businesses in the community to follow their example. One of many generous supporters is Emerson Process Management. While they provide financial support to CASA each year, with MYP's engagement, their employees have also opened their hearts and donated hundreds of gift cards and toys for our children in foster care."

Taylor White, chairwoman of the McKinney Young Professionals, worked hard with fellow MYP members to make this year’s Toy Drive a success. She said, “I would like to personally thank every individual and business who contributed to the McKinney Young Professionals second annual Christmas in July. It was so rewarding to see not only our community but neighboring communities get involved and support CASA of Collin County. I look forward to seeing this event grow and raise awareness for the children in need.”
